Yearlings
Hey Shepherd, Do You Smell Like A Sheep
Yearling sheep can be the most frustrating sheep a shepherd owns, yet they are the most valuable sheep on the farm. Young people, especially teens have a comparable role, a challege for parents but a valuable human resource for the future. Sheep require a lot of care, and in crisis situations I have spent more time with them. The more time I spend with my sheep the more I smell like sheep. Some pastors may find themselves out of touch when they fail to spend enough time with their sheep.
The Lead Sheep
Steady On.... Sit....Come By
Lead sheep are those who quickly go ahead of other sheep. If that lead is to follow the shepherd, then all is well. However, if they go the wrong direction then other sheep are lead astray. People often follow a similar pattern.
King is an excellent herding dog, but at times he uses his own will to direct my sheep. This tendancy to direct the paths of my sheep according to his will is a type and shadow of how some Christian leaders direct their flocks.
Paths of Righteousness for His Name's Sake
Table In The Presence of the Enemy
Sheep that frequently go through fences into a neighbor's pasture are a reflection upon the name of their shepherd. In a like matter the name sake of Jesus is reflected in our behavior.
I prepared everything my sheep needed should the enemy come, but when the enemy came the sheep literally were gone with the wind. Do Christians sometimes follow this pattern?
Three Strands of Wire
Green Pastures
Three strands of wire to control sheep just trains them to jump through fences. Are there parallels in our Christian life; do poor standards and unclear boundaries have an adverse effect on us? Sheep are creatures of habit and desire to graze near water, salt, and the comfort of shade trees, but this behavior can be very destructive and unproductive. Are people any different?
